Open and Affirming & Welcoming
The Peoples Church of Chicago is a United Church of Christ’s “Open and Affirming” and Unitarian Universalist Association’s “Welcoming” congregation. We welcome the participation and leadership of the LGBTQ+ community in the life of the church.
We march in Chicago’s annual Pride Parade and commemorate the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Art in Transitional Housing
We partner with North Side Housing and Supportive Services and Open Studio Project to bring the healing aspect of art into the shelter using creativity to empower.
Aldi Gift Card Program
The Aldi Gift Card Program assists our neighbors who encounter food insecurity.
Billy Hand Robinson Labor Day Picnic
The Billy Hand Robinson Labor Day Picnic celebrates the hardworking people living in transitional housing. We partner with the Preston Bradley Center, Chicago All-Stars and Taste for the Homeless sharing delicious food, lively music and community.
Laptop Ministry
The laptop ministry distributes older laptops refurbished with easy to use Linux distributions, to people living in Chicago with the goal of reducing e-waste while benefiting folks in Chicago who need a laptop. The initiative became a ministry of the church in April of 2023.
We are currently seeking laptop inkind donations.
Anyone with working laptops newer than 2012 are accepted. Please call 872-985-5095 to inquire about donations or getting on the laptop wait-list. Messages left will be returned on Sundays.
Inkind donations of laptop drop offs can be done at the ICA/Greenrise reception office, 24/7, 4750 N. Sheridan. Logistics for picking up laptop lot donations (more than 5 units) to our ministry can be worked out during the week; Please text or leave a voicemail at 872-985-5095 and someone from the ministry will return the message.
Uptown Community Podcast
The Uptown Community Podcast (UCP) developed in partnership with the Peoples Church of Chicago, celebrates the Uptown Neighborhood by engaging them and their challenges such as affordable housing, food insecurity and preserving culture, history, art, and diverse faiths.
